so i thought i would write about the song and the video before it is made public. not sure tho how many read it anyway.
having your songs published has one very odd and ambivalent consequence, well, if you write songs or lyrics that come from your deep inside, you sooner or later see/hear your most hidden secrets on radio/tv, other people’s hands. it is suddenly everywhere. and it feels being undressed in public. only you do not know if others are going to laugh at you or appreciate you in the nude.
alfred’s lovesong is one of my most preciously hidden secret, it is about the most intimate thing I could imagine: my falling asleep.
i spent my twenties in panic disorder and depression. one of the symptoms was that i was scared to fall asleep, and as a result, i was beggin alfred every night to stay awake, play on his PC, read a book or watch documentaries on TV, whatever, just he makes sure i am sleeping.
i thought once that secret is out, we should underline it with others in the video. hence, we went to the house where i was brought up, the house where my grandparents, parents, my brother and my sister with her family lives now.
the house was originally bought by the grandparents of my grandfather, in the late 19th century. it is heavy with tradition and family history, it has things like a lilac tree that was planted for the wedding of my grandfather’s mother. so we went to the garden, took the my childhood armchair and the childhood teddybear, and started shooting. the bits inside you see is my grandparents flat. the swing is the one i was playing with my sister when we were tiny.
lucky the video does not crush from the weight it bears.
