December 14, 2009 Concert on Saturday

# posted by Kristof in Uncategorized

So, there we go, time has come, our first ever self-organised concert. Long’un too, it’ll be a bit over 90 minutes.

I do not know how other performers are with ticket sales expectations, but I was really pleasantly shocked how fast we sold out the evening gig and had to put tickets up for sale for the afternoon one, that was originally planned to be press only.

It’ll be a milestone in many respects.

We never have played a concert an evening only on our own, either we’ve been supporting or we have been supported. This time our only support will be a 90-minute long mix of pop songs I put together last weekend. There will be songs by my eternal favourites as well as by the guest artists.

And then the concert. The program, the order of the songs is completely different from any other we’ve ever played, but right now, as an excel sheet it looks rather fine. We’ll play songs we never have before, such as the second part of You Are A Lover titled You Were A Lover, where the narrator’s friend is trying to come back. Will they manage?

We’ll also play Winchester Geese, a delicious song for harp and vocals, see my 25th September entry on the geese and their story.

And we’ll also play a song, which is VERY recent and is called ‘Hard’. Hard in what sense? :-) It’s a response to Poniklo’s song on me.

Hungarian audience have not yet heard our Song of the Sick, which we planned to play at Sziget, but then the overhearing of other tents prevented us. This is the time.

On the other hand, for probably the first time we’ll not play Messiah. I’ve always had issues with the lyrics of that song, so I won’t shed a tear. Neither will there be Pago-pago. Not even if you demand it screeching at the end. (Try us.)

And I have also put my Edwardian morning-jacket to the wardrobe, and selected (on a very painful and nerve wrecking trip to malls) bright colours. If you saw us at the Academy of Music, you got the idea.

So. Are you coming? :-)

September 25, 2009 Winchester Geese – Shrine to the Outcast Dead.

After our last concert in London I stayed for a week more in London. While I was on the train from Bermondsey to London Bridge, I was pointed to the left by my host and friend, Llywelyn. It was a regular building site grey and ugly, nothing special.

He said that’s the Crossbones Graveyard where the Winchester Geese were burried. I looked a bit puzzled, and wondered, as it looked nothing like a burial site.

As it turns out, the place was used to buried the outlaws, people that could not be burried into consecrated ground from an unknown time in the Middle Ages. Being outcase, prostitutes were burried here too, ones that were apparently licensed by the Bishop of Winchester. Church always knew what business was. Then, in 1853 it was closed down “completely overcharged with dead,’ and further burials were deemed “inconsistent with a due regard for the public health and public decency.” And then in 1883 they sold it as a building site, used it as a fairground and now, now it is nothing. Locals are trying to get a permanent memorial for the 15000 people still lying underground. Right now they have a plaque and the gate is full of ribbons and notes of people of goodwill.

This whole story touched me very deeply. Partly because, as you know, for a very brief period of my life I used to be the part of the clergy, partly, well. Just because.

When I got home, I got a new piece of music by our harpist, Feri, and the lyrics I wrote, well it’s about the Winchester Geese. It’ll be interesting to see whether this song will ever be used or it will be burried in the Crossbones, too.

RIP The Outcast dead.

September 19, 2009 Toothy Trees

So. We are apparently being supported by the Tooth Fairy.

In less than a month, Havasi had one of his wisdom teeth out, Biborka (I know, she is not a band member, but she almost is) had one out and today I had two. So I win anyway.

The good thing is that it was a fairly easy experience for all three of us. What next? :D

as a souvenir, here are my teeth:

September 14, 2009 Move out of your childhood.

So, as it happens, we needed some bookshelves in our new room and as it happens, there are plenty of them in the room I grew up. So as the best solution: take shelves off your ex-room and move them over to your new one.

If it was this simple.

Boxing your books from the shelves inevitably puts little memories in your hands as well as a lot of dust, and to bare the walls, taking the shelves off makes you feel like breaking up. Perhaps it is time to dettach from that time. Perhaps it is a nice coincidence with the few events that can be counted as growing up. I don’t know. But still. The bare walls. It’s a bit painful.

September 11, 2009 Memories revisited

Remember the teddybear in the ‘Alfred’s Lovesong’ video?

Well, now that our flat has become bigger, I took it from our parents’ place and now it lives with us finally. And. My older cat seems to have fallen for it. Now the teddy gets a regular massage and is being slept with on a daily basis.

July 24, 2009 CAMPUS adventures

so. we had one of our most adventurous shows ever. the wind was blowing 45 kmph, the ethno/electro whatever tent overhearing was outrageous. still. there was some spark. people came, people stayed. we also for the first time ever had to change the setlist during the concert in order to be heard, so we played our louder songs in the first half of the concert and put the quieter ones to the end when the other tent decided to stop playing:

intro
meteor
what do you know
two days
devil on your shoulder
pago pago
slowdown
alfred’s lovesong
protector
heroes
overture
angels’ secret
you are a lover
szívnagyobbodás
guys that died

Okay. So here we go. Exciting news.
On our London concert, 19th August, you will have the great opportunity to take a fantastic tragi-comic to your hands drawn by Howard J Hardiman to the lyrics of our song, Guys That Died. It’s a lovey 12 page booklet with 12 drawings. And it’ll only be ………… ₤2.50, too!

You’ll need to be quick, though, as it’s limited to 100 copies and there will be no more of them!
